MelikaM

Taking a break from today's LFW postings, to tell you about a new clothing brand that the girls from Felicities introduced me to this week!

The designer Melika Imora started designing her collection following a career in designing for top high street brands. Her extensive knowledge in the fashion industry has resulted in the MelikaM collection being both wearable and fun!

There are lots of pieces that I would love to own! Check out the MelikaM website - www.melikam.com

At LFW I saw that  Kate Nash had been wearing lots of the Felicities designers! The girls at Felicities informed me that she and her stylist had selected a couple of MelikaM pieces. One of which was a yellow coat that I love! See image below -

Is Latex the next in thing for AW12???

Whilst wondering around Somerset House this season I came across two latex lovelies.

Firstly Pandemonia, who is 7 foot tall and plastic fantastic!

Secondly the Gothic Jack France (who I must admit gave me a bit of a fright whilst walking down an empty corridor)

I'm now off to reconsider my entire wardrobe...

Jeffrey Michael AW12

Having heard of Jeffrey Michael previously through some of his work with artists such as Jessie J and Diana Vickers, I was excited to go and view his début collection at St Martins Lane Hotel.

His début collection is inspired by silhouettes of  the golden age of old Hollywood and when looking at some of the pieces, I could easily imagine women like Elizabeth Taylor wearing them!

The collection included both long evening dresses, short flirty dresses for the younger girl (Dionne Bromfield was wearing one to the presentation, and looked stunning) and statement corsets.

My favourite pieces included a corset embellished with little green army men and also a light up dress made of keyboard keys - which I overheard took five months to make and includes Lady Gaga lyrics!

Jeffrey Michael is a designer that I will definitely be keeping my eye on!

Francesca Marotta AW12

Next up,  the dramatic Francesca Marotta AW12 Collection ' Amore della mia Vita ' at Goldsmiths Hall!

This high drama collection was almost entirely black with the occasional flashes of red, and a touch of neon jewellery. The Gothic/ Religious inspiration was amazing and included lots of textures such as lace, wool, leather and velvet.

Lako Bukia AW12 'Broken Mirrors'

Another stunning collection from the amazing Lako Bukia!

Her AW12 collection 'Broken Mirrors' takes inspiration from the fear that breaking a mirror causes bad luck. Lako Bukia took the idea of being afraid to look at broken mirrors and interpreted it into the fashion world stating that 'I am facing myself in broken mirrors, challenging my fears and sowing that I am really strong. My AW12 designs are for strong women, who are not afraid to face their fears and everything that comes along the way. They know in life they can fall apart  but will have the strength to get back to normal'

The collection was predominantly black and silver, featuring luxurious fabrics such as silk, leather and chiffon.

The show-piece dress featuring a broken mirror was stunning and I loved the glitter bomb at the end of the catwalk!

Jasper Garvida

It's about time I started to write up some of my favourite shows and presentations from London Fashion Week!

Starting with Jasper Garvida!

His stunning AW12 collection drew inspiration from Russian constructivism and is entitled ' Revolutionnaire Situation de la Forme'

The collection included beautiful figure hugging dresses, gorgeous tailoring, plunging necklines and gold detailing.

My favourite pieces were towards the end of the show. Stunning evening dresses with gold embroidery, thick gold chains and gold shoulder tassels.

London Fashion Week - Stella McCartney is Back!

I can honestly say I'm really excited for London Fashion Week this season.

Not only will we be gettng an insight into the emerging designers showcasing their works and watching the seasoned veterans in the industry, a special veteran will be returning to our shores for one season only and that is, of course, Stella McCartney!

She will be showing a presentation during London Fashion Week, and there have already been events leading up to the viewing, those of which include the installation in Seflrdiges & Co on Oxford Street and the launch of her new fragrance L.I.L.Y.

Welcome back Stella! And stay home!

New York Fashion Week

So NYFW kicked off the Fashion Week season last week Wednesday and I'm quite impressed with the make up styles and colour palettes being absolutely gorgeous!

There have been a few shows which I've really loved though, Victoria Beckham's being one of them and it really was a beautiful show.
Her design aesthetic is now much more noticeable. Dresses of course were the norm, with a colour palette that included the trusted black, shades of moss green, aubergine and reds. Suited for the slimmest or athletic of silhouettes though, the dresses were quite simple yet striking with enough minimal details to make them stand out and the coats even more so, taking on a military feel.

Victoria has also taken the time to grow her accessories range, naming a bag after her daughter Harper. These too, especially the bags (envelope clutches and fairly decent sized carry holds), were a great accompliment to her simple styles.

Below are a couple of my favourites.

P.S. I want that coat!

Another one of the shows I also really loved was Zac Posen, with supermodel Coco Rocha ending the show in a beautiful blue and black jacquard print gown and of course Coco looked gorgeous as usual.

I'm going to steal some critique from vogue.com though as they describe the collection in much more detail than I ever could right now - 'In an Imperial Japanese theme, gowns were folded like origami. Bodices and corsets were pleated and shaped into peplums and bustles, and skirts were exaggerated fishtails or voluminous parachutes. Sleeves exposed shoulders or folded around them like stiff wings.

The fabrics were heavy – jacquard and duchess satin - and embroidered with peonies and willow blossom, often in a few shades darker than the background or with gold or “Tokyo” red contrasting dramatically against black. Chiffon was occasionally used to act as a contrast to an embroidered sleeve or as a flowing skirt, as wispy as oriental incense. Colours were powerful and intense - opium red, peacock blue and violet - but also showed restrained elegance in fawn, mink, slate, orchid (a smoky pink), and slate grey.'

If you havent seen the collection, check out some images, but I'm sure you will get the idea.

The evening gowns were my favourite pieces, so simple and yet so extravagant at the same time. Figure hugging silhouettes with exaggerated fishtail bottoms as described above, and when the pieces were shown only once, these pieces made an excellent statement on the catwalk.

Again some of my favourite pieces.

Now bring on London Fashion Week!

Hi Again! And Happy Valentines Day!

It has been such a LONG time since I've been on here... Apologies! So Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and finally Happy Valentine's Day! It has been pretty mental at the moment though, with everyone gearing up for Fashion Week, but still, I thought I had to write something.

A lot has been happening in the world of celebrity... The birth of Beyonce and Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy, how gorgeous is she with all that lovely hair?!

And of course much more recently, the death of a musical legend, Whitney Houston and just before the Grammy Awards (R.I.P.).

But, the show must go on...

I'll be writing up a couple posts today, so please bare with me.

And again Happy Valentine's Day. I hope you guys are wearing a bit of red today too!
