London Collections: Men now a serious contender

After a tricky start it now seems that London Collections: Men has found a formula that works and there was a much more positive buzz about this edition

The schedule seemed a lot more organized this season and offered a broad range of activity with exhibitions, seminars, film screenings, events and parties in addition to the shows. There was also a lot of activity around the main show schedule with a full calendar of off schedule activities and a general drive to promote British men’s wear from Savile row to the high street

Our favs this season include KTZ, Christopher Shannon, Ada + Nik plus the awesome Katie Eary with her neon animal prints and mickey mouse ears.

London Collections Men - up and running

It seems a really early start on the fashion calendar with the Christmas decorations still up and the New Year hangover only just fading - but LCM has kicked off in style with the Dolce & Gabbana party this evening.

Over the next three days LCM will feature over 130 designers hosting shows, presentation and events. The Designer Showrooms has nearly doubled in size and will showcase collections by 54 designers. Highlights on the event schedule include a Dolce Gabbana event, an opening party by Esquire; a reception at Liberty hosted by Men’s Health and YMC; a dinner hosted by Jonathan Newhouse and a Tommy Hilfiger and a Mulberry event. On Wednesday 8th January the BFC Fash/On Film initiative, sponsored by River Island will showcase five of the year’s best films at a screening at the Old Sorting Office. These include a film introduced by Alex Bilmes, Alex Mattsson AW14, palmer//harding AW14 and Joseph Turvey in collaboration with the River Island Design Forum. The showcase will close with a London Collections: Men GQ dinner hosted by Dylan Jones and Anya Hindmarch.

We are sorting though our tickets and fixing our schedule over the next three days and though we may not be here for a couple of days -  we will be back soon with news from the shows !

Enjoy LC:M

Party Dresses for NYE from ASOS Sale

There is still time to buy yourself the perfect party dress from the ASOS sale - here are a few of our favourites

Boxing Day Sales

It is hoped that the traditional post-Christmas sales provide a boost to High Street retailers, as shoppers look for increasingly competitive discounts.
Many large department stores and chains opened early on Boxing Day, while a number of online sales began on Christmas Eve with a huge n umber of people shopping on line on Christmas Day!
In London's Oxford Street, some had queued outside their favourite retailers since the early hours of the morning in their eagerness to grab the best bargains with some people queueing outside the flagship Topshop branch since 06:00.

Meanwhile Harrods kicked off its winter sale with mugs of hot chocolate and gourmet smoked salmon canapés served by butlers to people in the queue, while they were serenaded by a string quartet and watched a performance by street magician Dynamo.

The crowds certainly turned out in force at Westfield Stratford as this image shows

Jameel Prize 3 at the V & A

Jameel Prize 3 - Winner Announced

Dice Kayek has won the £25,000 Jameel Prize 3 for Istanbul Contrast, a collection of garments that evoke Istanbul’s architectural and artistic heritage. The judges felt that Dice Kayek’s work demonstrates how vibrant and creative Islamic traditions continue to be today. Their translation of architectural ideas into fashion shows how Islamic traditions can still transfer from one art form to another, as they did in the past. Ece and Ayşe Ege were presented with the prize by Martin Roth, Director of the V&A and Fady Jameel, President of Abdul Latif Jameel Community Initiatives (ALJCI) at an awards ceremony at the V&A on Tuesday 10 December
